Alex Celis (b. 1984, Puerto Montt, Chile) is a researcher and interdisciplinary creator working across philosophy, image theory, and artistic practice. Holding a PhD in Philosophy and a Master’s degree in interdisciplinary image studies, his work explores the image in its broadest sense: from text and sound to still and moving images.
His research focuses on the image as an experience, understood as a dynamic relationship between medium and observer. Drawing on thinkers such as Hans Belting, George Didi-Huberman, Roland Barthes, and Georges Bataille, he examines moments of intensity where images disrupt perception and provoke critical reflection, engaging with concepts of crisis, imagination, and transformation.
Alongside his theoretical work, Celis develops projects across multiple formats, including documentary film, writing, illustration, and audiovisual production. His practice moves fluidly between research and creation, often bringing philosophical inquiry into dialogue with narrative and visual forms.
