Alex Celis (b. 1984, Puerto Montt, Chile) is a researcher, curator, and interdisciplinary creator working across philosophy, image theory, curatorial practice, and artistic research. Holding a PhD in Philosophy, a Master’s degree in interdisciplinary image studies, and having recently completed the postgraduate program in Curatorial Studies, he explores the image in its broadest sense, from text and sound to still and moving images.
His research focuses on the image as an experience, understood as a dynamic relationship between medium, observer, and context. Drawing on thinkers such as Hans Belting, Georges Didi-Huberman, Roland Barthes, and Georges Bataille, he investigates moments of intensity in which images disrupt perception and provoke critical reflection, engaging with questions of imagination, crisis, memory, and transformation.
Working between research, artistic practice, and curatorial inquiry, Celis understands these fields as complementary forms of knowledge production. His projects frequently combine theoretical investigation with creative processes, moving across writing, documentary film, sound, performance, illustration, and audiovisual production. Recent work in curatorial studies has reinforced his interest in collaborative methodologies, interdisciplinary research, and the role of curatorial practice as a space where artistic production, mediation, and collective forms of knowledge can converge.
